Meet the Sperber Family

Hurricane Sandy flooded our home for 7 days; leaving the the saltwater eating away the mortar from our home’s foundation, making it unstable and our home unsafe for occupancy. Though we had flood insurance, our insurance company has only paid 10% of our claim, allowing for only $600 to cover the foundations cracks with stucco and paint.  We have moved 5 different times over the past 2 1/2 years and are desperate to get our family back home.

We have been working for two years to get home, the following is what we've been able to receive from federal grants Baby Dolls and insurance coverage:

  • Exhausted FEMA rental assistance as of November 2013
  • Exhausted SHRAP as of October 2014
  • Received $31k from flood insurance (have spent some on engineers, dumpsters, storage fees, public adjustors, etc.)
  • Received $16k from home owners (have spent some on engineers, dumpsters, storage fees, public adjustors, etc.)
  • Approved for SBA for 60k but no award as of yet
