The Borough of Belmar Bureau of Fire Safety shall prescribe and enforce fire prevention and safety requirements as adopted by Municipal Ordinance, the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and Nationally recognized fire safety practices, to establish a higher level of fire safety education, life safety and property protection from the hazards created by fire and explosion.
This Bureau is responsible for Fire Inspections of all businesses within the Borough of Belmar, on an annual basis, to ensure that they meet all aspects of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Code. Additional areas of accountability include the investigation of all fires within the Borough and fire safety and prevention education programs.
The Fire Prevention and Investigation Bureau is staffed by a New Jersey State certified and licensed Fire Marshal that enforces the provisions of the New Jersey State Uniform Fire Code and local fire code ordinances.
The Fire Prevention and Investigation Bureau delivers local fire prevention and protection programs that are dedicated to the reduction of fire-related losses in lives, injury, and property. The Bureau meets this responsibility by developing fire protection policy and programs; educating the public regarding fire prevention in collaboration with the fire service and other local and county agencies; compiling, analyzing and reacting to local fire statistics; implementing and managing fire inspections and plan review systems, ensuring compliance with national and state building and fire codes, as well as local regulations; conducting fire investigations; establishing standards and training for emergency service investigators; and developing effective fire protection policies and practices.
