CONSTRUCTION PERMITS:

A construction permit is not required for fences, however you must submit a Minor Land Use application for zoning review. Please see the Fence Ordinance Document for rules. Any questions, please contact the Zoning Office.
Please contact the Construction Department to see if a permit is required for the type of work being done. BE ADVISED if you are found to be doing work without a permit FINES will be issued. These fines can range from $500 to $2,000. Examples of work that require permits: roof, siding, addition, new construction, interior renovation, plumbing, electrical, burglar alarm, water heater, boilers, air conditioning units, generators, chimneys, porch/deck, etc.

Before submitting any applications please make sure that all forms are complete; including signatures, estimated costs, phone numbers, license numbers, description of work, contractor‘s signature and seal, etc. If your application is not complete it will delay the review process. Review time varies, legally the Construction Department has 21 days to do permit plan review, typically we attempt to have reviews complete within one to two weeks.

Construction permit applications must be picked up in person or can be obtained by mail.

ROOFING & SIDING

As of March 5th, 2018 a permit is no longer required for roofing & siding for detached one & two family dwellings.

The state of New Jersey (department of community affairs) has made changes to the UCC (uniform construction code) regarding ordinary maintenance & minor work.  Minor work still requires permits but there have been some changes to the minor work procedures.  Ordinary maintenance has never required a permit.  The state has added some types of work that will now be considered ordinary maintenance and not require a permit.  Roofing, siding & burglar alarms will now not require a permit. For the complete list of changes FOLLOW THE LINK BELOW  HTTP://WWW.NJ.GOV/DCA/DIVISIONS/CODES/ALERTS/PDFS/OM_MVV_03052018.PDF
